It's late, after midnight, and I have just returned from the hospital in a sling. Let me back up first, and tell you what happened.
I was asked to fill in for a summer hockey match tonight, a once off, as I don't regularly play summer hockey, just its winter counterpart. Anyways, maybe 3 minutes into the game, I intercepted an errant pass mid field, and as I do, I went for a run towards goal. After dragging around the last defender, I was one on one against the goalkeeper. A quick shot on goal at the top of the circle (which missed by inches), which was fine, except the goalkeeper then proceeded to slide into me, after the shot, which sent me sprawling up in the air over him, and landing on my right shoulder.
After lying on the ground for a few seconds, my teammates came running over, to see if I was alright. I felt fine, a bit knocked around, but alright to play on. The look on my teams face said otherwise. I had a huge lump on top of my right shoulder, and was told by my teammates that it looked like I had dislocated it. So I reluctantly walked off the field. My shoulder wasn't hurting, so I figured it was just a lump, and wanted to stay and watch the rest of the match. The umpire from the previous game came up to me in the dugout, and said that I should definitely go to hospital and check it out, as it looked quite bad. At this point, one of my mates Charlie took a ball to the knee quite hard, and came limping off. He offered me a lift to the hospital, which I took.

Once in the emergency ward at Box Hill Hospital, I was diagnosed with a dislocated shoulder. I was attended to by 7 doctors at this point, all of which tried manipulating my shoulder to try and put it back in its socket, to no avail.
I was then rolled out on my bed (because apparently I couldn't walk with a bung shoulder?) to get 2 sets of x-rays.

The diagnosis?
I dislocated my right shoulder and tore apart the AC Joint.
As you can see on the left side of the photo (my right shoulder), it's quite different compared to my left shoulder. This is because the AC joint ligament is damaged and the ligament can't hold the clavicle to the scapula, which means the giant lump on my should is my collar bone basically.
So that was my diagnosis. What this means for the TM Tour 2014? I do not know currently. I have been told that I will be out of sport for 3 months minimum, and will definitely not be able to run the Melbourne Tough Mudder in 38 days, let alone on both Saturday and Sunday, but we shall see. What do they know, they're only doctors! I am currently in a sling, and will be for 5 weeks til my next check-up. That means I will (hopefully) be out of this sling 4 days before TM Melbourne. This is going to be a huge hindrance on my training!
I leave you now with one last photo of my wrecked shoulder.
